Accompanying events in Liège
Liège welcomed us not only with great atmosphere for the street campaign, but also accompanying events:
Morning animation around the documentary “Open secret, au cœur de la mode made in UK” was proposed by AchACT a Belgian organisation member of international movement Clean Clothes Campaign. They support and defend human rights in textile industries. They also work with unions and workers in order to improve and denounce bad work conditions and harmful impacts on the environment.

In the morning we had a workshop hosted by Eclosio, our Belgian partner organization. We watched a interesting documentary about garment factories in England and their many issues including especially worker rights. After documentary we shared thoughts about the topic and how we could advocate on the field of fast fashion together and also outside of our project.

We attended a powerful documentary screening that shed light on the harsh realities faced by workers in Leicester, UK’s garment and fashion production factories. It was heartbreaking to learn that many workers earn far below the minimum wage set by the UK government, shockingly close to the minimum wage in Pakistan.
Despite regulations, the enforcement of labour rights seems almost nonexistent. The documentary highlighted how, during the 2020 pandemic, Leicester became a COVID-19 hotspot due to poor health and working conditions in these factories. Workers continue to endure unsafe environments, extreme overtime hours, and no proper compensation.
It’s devastating to witness such exploitation in an industry that thrives on the labor of vulnerable individuals. It's a stark reminder of how urgent reform is needed to protect the rights and dignity of workers everywhere.

After our street campaign we went to an exhibition named “Zaza”. It was about a woman who’s only wearing second hand clothes, creating eccentric looks with them. We enjoyed looking at the photos with a free drink in our hands. Some even got second-hand clothes there, inspired by the pictures they were looking at before. It was a nice way to end our campaign in Liège.

The exhibition in Cultural Center “Les chiroux” is a photographic exhibition created by Marion Collard. As part of the TempoColor operation, dedicated this year to the hidden face of clothing consumption, the Fast Fashion educational presentation by achACT was held alongside the main exhibition. The project is also supported by “Fil & Fringue”, a sustainable project around clothes in the city of Liège.
