European Parliament: meetings with Belgian MEPs
During the first meeting with the Belgian MEP, Estelle Cullemans, we talked a lot about our project (for maybe too long) then at some point, we asked Estelle Cullemans what she could do on her level. The answer was that it’s going to be hard to do something directly such as adding a line on the ban of Fast Fashion Ads in the announced laws. Even if the MEP might be the trialogue negotiation representative for the Parliament because, in her opinion, it will be pretty hard to make a change since most of the chairs are in the right-wing party’s hands.
But still, Estelle Cullemans was very eager to learn more, already aware of the topic and glad that young people fight for this kind of topic.
During the second Belgian meeting, we met Saskia Bricmont. What we remember from this meeting is that the MEP facing us was totally on our side in this battle that we are fighting. With her extensive experience, she provided us with guidance on which tactics to employ, who to connect with, what to do in the weeks following the meetings, and especially not to give up on the remarkable but challenging battle we are engaged in. On her part, she committed to pass on the information of our meeting to her colleagues and keep us informed of their progress on the subject. As soon as an opportunity to meet with other parliamentarians would present itself, she would be available.
