Advocacy meeting at the Ministry of Environment of Slovenia
On 4th September, seven of us met with Uroš Vajgl, the State Secretary at the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy as well as an expert on waste management and a government liaison for NGOs and youth at their office in Ljubljana. We presented the future we want project to them, and presented our proposals and the reasons for why they should support us. They warmly welcomed us, expressing enthusiasm with a comment on “girl power,” and demonstrated strong support for our project and ideas. They will consider signing our open letter, and they came to the street activity on the afternoon.
They mentioned their ongoing sustainable consumption campaign and, following our meeting, committed to integrating a chapter on fast fashion into it. They were receptive to our proposals, aligned with our arguments, and expressed willingness to explore the possibility of banning fast fashion advertising in Slovenia. They also voiced support for our campaign to elevate this issue to the EU level. Although taxation on fast fashion falls under the Ministry of Economy, they committed to proposing this initiative to them. They will work towards arranging a meeting between us and the Economy Minister, who had previously declined our request. This could present an opportunity after the caravan. Overall, the meeting was highly successful.
