Meeting with deputy mayor of Strasbourg, Guillaume Libsig
The participants in The Future We Want project are not letting up and are continuing their advocacy meetings to raise awareness among policymakers about fast fashion. On Monday, October 21, we met Guillaume Libsig, deputy mayor of Strasbourg, responsible among other things, for community life and youth.
Many things came out of this meeting, but what made the young activists think the most was Guillaume Libsig’s remark that we should all be more responsible consumers, because “a consumer is also a consumerACTOR” (it works better in French) .
Mr. Libsig also told us that they would be available to organize a conference in Strasbourg to define the concept of Fast Fashion, as per our recommendations. “Fight is never a dirty word” – Mr. Libsig emphasized the need to create spaces that advance the subject and contribute to generating positive, not punitive, support for the fight. As an example, he mentioned the OFF Market, an initiative that follows the more famous Strasbourg Capitale de Noël.
During this event, around thirty local responsible purchasing structures come together at Place Grimmeissen in Strasbourg to reinvent Christmas and offer a unique meeting space for visitors from all over the world, Strasbourg residents and players in the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE).
Hoping that one day The Future We Want project can have its own stand at the Christmas Market and raise awareness among the general public of the effects of Fast Fashion, we thank Mr. Libsig and the City of Strasbourg for listening to us.
