Meeting with Slovenian MEP Matej Tonin

Last Friday we met with Matej Tonin, accompanied by Clara Zaffino (ita.), Juliette Rasir (bel.) and Pauline Cubelier (bel.), and the SLOGA representative Nataša Novak. In a hybrid meeting format, we presented our arguments for regulating fast fashion advertising. The debate was dynamic, as the MEP also shared his views on our project. In his reply, he expressed his support for our efforts and explained why he felt that some of the proposals were too intrusive in regulating the market. At the end of the discussion, we all agreed that fast fashion is one of the important issues that not only civil society is dealing with, but also the European Union should be dealing with.
His arguments also showed us another perspective on our demands, which we will certainly consider and take on board in our future efforts. Such meetings are crucial for our project, as we want to present it as a topic that can find common ground with the diverse values represented by MEPs, whether it is a commitment to sustainability, the protection of workers and nature, or concern for the mental health of young people and Europe’s local economy. We hope that our continued work can persuade MEPs to support us more strongly.
